What was supposed to be an exciting day for 24-year-old Jamestown patrol officer Ryan Bourque last Monday, May 23 – his one year anniversary on the police force – turned into a tragedy as a wrong-way driver caused his death.
Just a few minutes after midnight, a driver going the wrong direction on a one-way collided head-on with Bourque’s Dodge Charger on I-95 near exit 7 in East Greenwich as Bourque was heading home from a 3 p.m. to 11 p.m. shift at the police station. The driver was identified as 23-year-old Bedford, Massachusetts resident Dejae Pizzaro. Jamestown Police Chief Ed Mello said of the young officer “He was a humble, respectful young man. It’s a tremendous loss.” Bourque, after just one year on the force, was already being recognized for his commitment to developing relationships with the public.
The wrongful death attorneys at the Law Offices of Ronald J. Resmini, LTD. know how painful it is for communities to lose one of their own. Our thoughts are with the residents of Jamestown as they mourn the death of an active member of their community.
