2 students taken to hospital after chemistry class accident in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, RI – Two students were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital following an accident involving chemicals at New Bedford High School on Thursday morning.

According to the New Bedford Guide, students were mixing chemicals in a class that was unattended. One witness in the class at the time complained that school officials did not have anyone supervising while the students handled hazardous materials.

The teacher was absent and a substitute was not yet assigned.

Two students suffered mild symptoms from chemical exposure and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
