Child hospitalized after hit by driver in Bourne

BOURNE, MA – A child was injured after being hit by a driver in bourne around 4 p.m. on Tuesday.

The incident happened on Route 6 at St. Margaret’s Street, reports  Cape Cod local media.

The child was rushed to Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence. No further details were immediately provided.

Bourne police are investigating the incident.

Fire crews respond to overnight New Bedford house fire, 7 displaced

NEW BEDFORD, RI – Seven people were displaced and four officers suffered minor injuries after a New Bedford home caught fire early Monday morning.

According to WBSM, the fire broke out in a three-family residence at 34 Sidney Street near Hemlock Street around 1 a.m.

Police officers evacuated six adults and one infant, as well as several pets from the burning building.

Four officers suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital to be treated.

Firefighters were able to contain the blaze in about an hour. None of the residents were injured.

Officials say the cause of the fire was improper disposal of smoking material from the third-floor balcony.

Fire crews respond to suspicious garage fire in Onset

WAREHAM, MA – Crews responded to a garage fire at 29 Robinwood Road in Onset Wednesday evening, reports local media. 

Approximately 29 personnel were able to knock down the fire, although the structure was considered a total loss. Neighboring buildings sustained some damage as well.

After a preliminary investigation, authorities believe the fire was intentionally set. No word on injuries was immediately available.

Pedestrian struck, seriously injured by SUV in Falmouth

FALMOUTH, MA – A man suffered serious injuries after being struck by a driver in an SUV in Falmouth Saturday evening.

According to the Cape Cod Times, 60-year-old Jeffrey Bockweg, of Stow was crossing Teaticket Highway near Figuerido Way toward Cumberland Farms.

Richard Schaffer, 67, of Falmouth was driving an SUV southbound when he struck the pedestrian in the roadway.

Emergency crews began performing life-performing measures before a medical helicopter transported Bockweg to Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

Shaffer remained on the scene and cooperated with officers.

The incident remains under investigation.

2 students taken to hospital after chemistry class accident in New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD, RI – Two students were taken to St. Luke’s Hospital following an accident involving chemicals at New Bedford High School on Thursday morning.

According to the New Bedford Guide, students were mixing chemicals in a class that was unattended. One witness in the class at the time complained that school officials did not have anyone supervising while the students handled hazardous materials.

The teacher was absent and a substitute was not yet assigned.

Two students suffered mild symptoms from chemical exposure and were taken to the hospital for treatment.

Officials are investigating the incident.

2 people airlifted to hospital after serious crash in Rochester

ROCHESTER, MA – Two people were seriously hurt after a single-vehicle crash in Rochester Sunday morning.

2 injured after two-vehicle rollover crash in Falmouth

FALMOUTH, MA – Two people suffered injuries following a two-vehicle Collin in Falmouth Friday morning.

According to WJAR, the crash happened at the intersection of Clark Street and John Parker Road around 5:45 a.m.

A licensed juvenile driving a GMC Canyon failed to stop at the intersection stop sign and struck a Kia Sportage. The impact caused the GMC to rollover.

A passenger in the GMC was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. They were taken to an area hospital with injuries.

The driver of the Kia also suffered injuries and was transported to the hospital.

The GMC driver was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.

Westport man hospitalized after house fire

WESTPORT, MA – A man was sent to the hospital after yet another house fire in Westport over the weekend.

According to WBSM, fire crews responded to a fire Sunday evening at 1634-1636 Drift Road.

They found a man in the front yard with injuries from the blaze. He was taken to an area hospital for treatment.

Authorities believe a wood-burning stove was the cause of the fire. This was the fourth fire in the past week that fire crews have extinguished in Westport.
