A 38 year-old Rhode Island woman was driving a three-wheel Scoot Coupe two-person moped eastbound on Ocean Avenue in Newport last Wednesday, August 3 when she collided with a Nissan Xterra that was headed west along the same road.

She and her 10-year-old male passenger were hurt during the incident as they were both thrown from the vehicle during the collision.

The woman, who was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident, had been taken to Newport Hospital and was later brought to Rhode Island Hospital for the treatment of her critical injuries.

The boy was brought to Newport Hospital and was later transported to Hasbro Children’s Hospital where he is now listed in stable condition from critical.
