Uninsured Motorist Coverage: Protecting Yourself
Your own insurance policy can be your best protection. Most people feel automobile insurance is to protect other individuals for personal injuries when they are involved in an accident. That is only a percentage of the real reason to have high coverage on your policy. If you are involved in an accident from another's negligence and the defendant does not have enough insurance to cover you or your family members for injuries sustained while occupants in your own automobile, then you can proceed under your own policy for additional benefits. Of course, you can only benefit from this underinsured/uninsured coverage if you have protected yourself by purchasing such coverage prior to the date of the incident in question.
Do not be convinced to purchase minimal or no uninsured motorist coverage because in doing so you are hurting yourself and members of your family to receive full and complete compensation for their injuries.
Remember, it is important to protect yourself against suit from others, but it's even more important to protect you and your family members against injuries caused by others.
